Special Teams
For those of you who have additional time to contribute to Community Farm, there is always lots to do, especially before the season begins! We have a few teams set up to tackle various areas that need extra attention at the farm. Read below and let us know if you are interested in lending a hand with any of these areas. Note that this volunteer work is IN ADDITION to your shift and is purely optional.
Greenhouse Team
Most of vegetables and flowers are started by seed mid February. There will be weekly sessions (starting Sat Feb 21) to prepare the greenhouse for planting (ie. setting up irrigation), seed planting, weekly plant maintenance and generally preparing to plant in the field when the season opens in May. If you haven’t already indicated that you are interested, please email Maureen and she will keep you posted on start dates.
Flower Team
New in 2026!
Although we attempted growing flowers last year, it was recognized that we need a dedicated team to focus on proper planting, pruning and harvesting techniques in order to have enough flowers to offer everyone a weekly bouquet! Ideally, what we are looking for is one dedicated specialist PER SHIFT who will be trained on how to deadhead, prune and harvest a new expanded assortment of cut flowers. We will start seed planting annuals in the greenhouse in March. No experience necessary but a love of flowers is an asset!
Ideally looking for 5 – 8 individuals. Please email Margot if interested.
Maintenance/Special Projects Team
There are always special projects at the farm, including building Compost Bins, Machine maintenance and repair (weed wackers, lawn mowers, ride-on) sharpening and repairing tools, deer fence repair, sign installation and irrigation repair. If you have experience with any of these things or would like to learn, we can always use additional help! Please email Margot if interested and let us know about your experience.
